Ms. Maria Claudia Cauterucci, is an M.A. in Clinical Psychology, and practices outpatient psychotherapy with adults, couples, and groups at her private practice at Alexander Psychotherapy Associates in downtown Washington, D.C. She has specific experience working with people who are experiencing identity transitions related to culture, sexuality, and coming of age. In her work with individual adults, Ms. Cauterucci works in both English and Spanish, and her treatment modalities include psychodynamic, interpersonal, mindfulness (meditation), and neuroscientific approaches. Ms. Cauterucci’s work with couples has centered on cross-cultural, interracial, and gay partnerships, and she has an expertise in issues related to infidelity, the subject of her graduate research.

Ms. Cauterucci’s post-graduate accomplishments include passing the National Counselor Certification and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia. In addition, Ms. Cauterucci has advanced training in group process and treatment from the Washington School of Psychiatry, where she completed a two-year program in group psychotherapy, and as a small group consultant for the Washington-Baltimore A.K. Rice Institute, an organization that addresses authority and leadership in group settings. Ms. Cauterucci has over 10 years leading psychotherapy groups and in May 2010 was awarded the status of Certified Group Psychotherapist from the American Group Psychotherapy Association, which formalizes her as a national expert in group psychotherapy. In 2005, Ms. Cauterucci completed a one-year program at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City, accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and became certified as a Holistic Health Counselor.

In 2010, she developed and currently provides a workshop series called DYNAMIC MEDITATION that integrates mindfulness, neuroscientific theory and meditation into a practical coping skill designed to be used in all settings, clinical and non-clinical. Her unique expertise derives from a twenty-year combination of advanced training in Mindfulness Therapy and neuroscience and a dedicated personal practice of various forms of meditation. The workshop series includes workshops that apply the Dynamic Meditation coping skill to themes such as “Love and Relationships”, “Money and Abundance”, “Family and Intimacy”, amongst others. As an extension to this series, Ms. Cauterucci runs meditation workshops for kids entitled “Feeling Free”. She currently runs 2 weekly DM groups wherein the meditation coping skill is applied to day-to-day events and emotional reactions.

Ms. Cauterucci is bicultural and bilingual in English and Spanish, and is proficient in French. She spent 27 years of her life living in Asia and Latin America.
